FHA MIP
Refund Finder
...............................................................................If you have paid off a FHA loan within the last seven years by
either refinancing or selling a home, you may be entitled to a refund of the unused HUD
MIP (MIP is the "Mortgage Insurance Premium" that FHA charges on every FHA
loan).
If you refinanced a FHA loan after January 1, 2001 that was
originally obtained after July 1, 1991 but before January 1, 2001, you may be entitled to
a HUD MIP refund. Prior to January 2001, FHA charge a FHA MIP of 2.25% of the loan amount
that was financed into your loan. If you refinanced after January 1, 2001, the new limit
was only 1.5%. Due to this change in FHA guidelines you may be entitled to a FHA
refund of the unused portion of the MIP.
Researching and collecting your HUD refund is free. Beware
of people (known as "Tracers") offering to help you collect your refund for a
fee. You do not need to hire someone to collect your money. You can obtain your refund
directly from HUD for free.
